Job Description
The position involves leading the company's tax function, providing strategic tax advice, ensuring compliance, supporting project financing, and managing tax planning and reporting for utility-scale solar and battery storage projects in the renewable energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tax advice to support the development of utility-scale solar and battery storage projects
- Identify and implement opportunities to maximize renewable energy tax incentives
- Ensure compliance with prevailing wage, apprenticeship requirements, and foreign entity restrictions
- Develop and execute a comprehensive tax strategy aligned with company growth
- Support project and corporate financing, including structuring tax equity transactions
- Identify and mitigate tax risks across jurisdictions
- Manage audits, inquiries, and relationships with tax authorities
- Support tax modeling and forecasting for project finance
- Drive tax planning initiatives and improve tax efficiency
- Perform due diligence and advise on tax implications of acquisitions and partnerships
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors and legal counsel
- Monitor legislative and judicial tax developments and analyze impacts
- Collaborate with business units on new initiatives, market entry, and supply chain structures
- Provide tax forecasts for GAAP, cash taxes, and FP&A
- Oversee preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns
Requirements
- J.D. or C.P.A. certification
- 10 to 15 years of progressive tax experience, including leadership roles
- Extensive experience in the renewable energy industry, including partnership taxation, tax credit initiatives, debt financing, and tax equity financing
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to manage tax advisors
- Excellent decision-making capabilities with a thorough understanding of various drivers impacting the decision
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with all team members including senior executive team
- Ability to provide tax advice to support the development of 5 GW of utility scale solar and battery storage projects
- Experience identifying and implementing opportunities to maximize the use of renewable energy tax incentives, including federal and state tax credits, property tax abatements, and sales use tax exclusions
- Experience ensuring compliance with prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements and foreign entities of concern restrictions
- Experience developing and executing a comprehensive tax strategy aligned with company growth objectives
- Experience supporting project and company financing, including structuring tax equity transactions
- Ability to identify and mitigate tax risks across all jurisdictions
- Experience managing audits, inquiries, and relationships with IRS, state, and local tax authorities
- Experience supporting the Project Finance team with modeling and forecasting
- Ability to perform feasibility analyses of various tax initiatives to improve tax efficiency and support strategic goals
- Experience performing due diligence, structuring, and advising senior management on tax implications of acquisitions and strategic partnerships
- Experience managing relationships with external tax advisors and legal counsel
- Ability to actively monitor US, state, and tax legislative and judicial actions, analyze potential impacts, benefits, and support legislative and regulatory affairs
- Experience working cross-functionally with legal, business units, supply chain, and other corporate functions on new business initiatives, market penetrations, and tax-efficient supply chain structures
- Ability to provide GAAP, cash tax, and FP&A tax forecasts
- Experience overseeing the preparation and filing of all federal, state, and local income, property, and sales tax returns

Compensation/salary range: $233,750 - $265,000 USD plus bonus
