Job Description
The Manager, Insurance and Risk Management is responsible for overseeing the company's insurance programs, managing risk assessments, and ensuring compliance across corporate and project levels within the clean energy development sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and annually update corporate insurance policies to mitigate risk.
- Implement project-specific insurance policies based on schedules and contracts.
- Review third-party insurance requirements before contract execution to ensure compliance.
- Assess third-party insurance coverage to ensure proper company protection.
- Review and update standard contracts and insurance requirements in response to market changes.
- Assist finance and FP&A teams with forecasting and budgeting insurance costs.
- Coordinate with brokers to process certificates of insurance (COIs) and ensure contractor compliance.
- Collaborate with brokers and consultants to prepare reports supporting project financings.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the company and insurance brokers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Risk Management or related field
- At least 4 years of experience in Insurance or Corporate risk management
- Experience with energy markets
- Understanding of energy project development lifecycles
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a cross-functional environment with both technical and non-technical team members who are geographically dispersed
- Ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities and take initiative to drive solutions
- Ability to uphold standards of complete discretion and confidentiality and exercise good judgment on day-to-day decisions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
- Experience in annually updating and renewing corporate insurance policies to properly manage risk
- Experience implementing project-level builders risk, liability, pollution, and operational insurance policies as required by project schedules and contracts
- Experience conducting upfront contract review of all third-party insurance requirements prior to execution to ensure company compliance
- Experience reviewing insurance requirements on third parties to ensure proper company coverage
- Experience annually reviewing and updating standard contracts and insurance requirements as market conditions change
- Experience assisting project finance and FP&A teams with forecasting and budgeting expected insurance costs at the corporate and project level
- Experience working with third-party brokers to process Certificates of Insurance (COI) requests and track contractor COIs to ensure compliance with agreement requirements
- Experience coordinating brokers and independent insurance consultants to prepare reports supporting project financings
- Experience managing relationships between the company and brokers
