Job Description

The Aurora Driver is responsible for safely piloting autonomous semi-trucks during testing and commercial operations, providing real-time feedback to engineers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to advance self-driving technology and improve transportation safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely pilot autonomous semi trucks during on-road and closed course testing
  • Monitor the Aurora Driver and provide real-time feedback on platform performance
  • Escalate operational issues with suggested solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support Aurora's mission
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of self-driving technology and operational changes
  • Ensure all required certifications, access permissions, and compliance standards are maintained
  • Engage with the public as an ambassador for Aurora

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience driving trucks commercially
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License
  • Interstate Class-A Commercial Driver's License
  • Driving record must pass Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) guidelines
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Ability to pass pre-employment, post-incident, and randomized drug testing in accordance with FMCSA requirements
  • Must pass DOT physical and meet all DOT qualifications
  • Ability to work night shifts, second and/or third shift, and rotating shifts as needed
  • Ability to work regular overtime and some weekends
  • Must spend up to 80% of shift time in the vehicle
  • Ability to travel as needed up to 50%
  • Ability to remain alert and attentive while monitoring the Aurora Driver during extended stretches of autonomy
  • Ability to log real-time feedback regarding autonomy and platform performance during testing
  • Ability to escalate operational blockers with suggested solutions
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with teams throughout Aurora
  • Ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of self-driving technology, including daily software and operational changes
  • Ability to maintain active and current status within required partner applications, including ensuring up-to-date user accounts, profile information, and necessary access permissions
  • Ability to achieve and sustain all mandatory certifications and accreditations as designated by management, compliance bodies, or critical partner agreements
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
