Job Description

The Truck Operations Maintenance Specialist at Aurora is responsible for yard logistics, vehicle inspections, routine maintenance, and operating autonomous and diesel trucks within the terminal to support development and commercial testing of self-driving technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate Class-8 tractors to move equipment, trailers, and autonomous assets within terminal yards and staging areas.
  • Coordinate yard logistics including trailer positioning, vehicle staging, and equipment preparation.
  • Inspect and prepare inbound and outbound vehicles and trailers, documenting findings and ensuring safety and operational readiness.
  • Perform routine OEM maintenance and complex mechanical or electrical repairs on autonomous tractors.
  • Diagnose mechanical or electrical faults using diagnostic tools and manufacturer documentation.
  • Support vehicle testing by safely piloting autonomous semi-trucks on-road and in testing environments.
  • Perform mechanical repairs, component replacements, and escalate major repairs as needed.
  • Collaborate with software and hardware teams for diagnostics, repairs, and vehicle component upgrades.
  • Track, document, and communicate maintenance activities, vehicle conditions, and reliability data.

Requirements

  • Must have a Class-A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and a valid U.S. Driver's License, and must pass DOT physical and meet all DOT qualification standards.
  • Must pass pre-employment, post-incident, and randomized drug testing in accordance with FMCSA requirements.
  • Driving record must pass Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) guidelines.
  • Must have diesel or OEM technician experience with demonstrated mechanical aptitude, including assembling or building parts or jigs for prototypes, and proficiency with mechanical fabrication tools such as drill presses, saws, hand tools, etc.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform active shop yard work including standing, crouching, and climbing throughout the shift.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting and team collaboration.
  • Ability to prioritize, make strategic decisions proactively, and work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to travel as needed up to 50% of the time.
  • Ability to work nights, rotating shifts, overtime, and some weekends as needed.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
