Job Description
The role involves integrating and optimizing hardware and software components for Aurora's self-driving vehicle platforms, including sensor integration, network architecture, performance tuning, and supporting fleet operations to advance autonomous mobility technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform bring-up of new vehicle platforms and define vehicle compute and network architecture
- Integrate new sensors and embedded devices, building interfaces for autonomy software
- Address vehicle-specific concerns related to runtime, hardware health, and networking
- Evolve fleet into a full service platform with integrated metrics and monitoring
- Optimize performance of onboard hardware resources such as Network, CPU, and GPU
- Define and implement precision time protocol architecture across the network
- Collaborate with autonomy engineers to meet security, integrity, and latency requirements for sensor data
- Utilize hardware-in-the-loop testing infrastructure to verify onboard code and profile performance
- Provide engineering support for field testing and fleet operations
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Strong programming skills in C.
- Experience working with networking protocols, such as TCP, UDP, CAN bus protocols, RTP, gRPC, TFTP, HTTP, 802.1Q VLANs, Linux networking, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to write robust, intuitive, high-performance code and be pragmatic about it.
- Ability to work at the hardware-software interface.
- Ability to navigate and work effectively in large codebases.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work efficiently with cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams.
- Experience with performing bring-up of new vehicle platforms, including defining vehicle compute and network architecture, integrating new sensors and embedded devices, and building interfaces for autonomy software.
- Experience addressing vehicle-specific concerns such as vehicle stack configuration, networking stack configuration, performance optimization, hardware health monitoring, and networking security.
- Experience evolving a fleet of vehicles into a full service platform with integrated metrics and monitoring.
- Experience optimizing performance on Network, CPU, GPU, and other limited onboard hardware resources.
- Experience working with HIL hardware-in-the-loop test infrastructure to automatically verify onboard code changes and profile performance.
- Providing engineering support for field testing and fleet operations.
