Job Description

The Staff Power Architect at Aurora is responsible for designing, developing, and testing electrical power systems for autonomous vehicle hardware, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure high-performance and reliable electronics that meet automotive safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate electronics for Aurora's custom hardware systems.
  • Gather requirements and define hardware power architecture.
  • Model, design, and deliver power electronic circuits to meet performance metrics.
  • Test, debug, and validate power electronic circuits on the bench and within systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to mature electrical designs for manufacturing.
  • Support the development of test infrastructure to ensure product quality and yield.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree with a focus in electrical or computer engineering.
  • Six (6) years of experience in industry developing complex electrical hardware.
  • Expertise in power architecture, signal and power integrity design and analysis, high-speed signaling, grounding, and analog electronics.
  • High proficiency and ability to analyze systems for balancing electro-mechanical and EMI/EMC constraints.
  • Extensive experience with hardware productization at system, board, and chip level implementation.
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals supported by the use of CAD tools to manage PCB layout and leverage Power Signal simulation and emulation input.
  • Experience in architecting, integrating, testing, and debugging power electronic circuits on the bench and in systems, leveraging software tools and advanced test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, DMMs, power supplies, and E-loads.
  • Experience in collaborating with electrical, mechanical, operations, and validation teams to mature high-quality electrical designs to manufacturing, including supporting test infrastructure development to meet product coverage and yield targets.
  • Ability to define build test procedures and extensive prior experience launching electrical hardware products.
  • Desirable: A master’s degree or PhD in Power Electronics or a related discipline.
  • Desirable: Six (6) years of experience in power conversion design for automotive or consumer electronics applications, such as battery charging or multi-phase DC-DC regulators.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of system power converter modeling and simulation, electromagnetic modeling, analysis fundamentals, and simulation tools.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of on-board power conversion design for automotive self-driving applications.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of automotive requirements, safety framework ISO26262, and qualification processes.
  • Desirable: Strong hands-on testing and troubleshooting skills.
  • Desirable: Programming and scripting experience in C, Python, or equivalent.
