Job Description
The role involves designing and integrating complex electrical hardware systems for autonomous vehicles, including harnesses, connectors, and vehicle networks, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure proper assembly, testing, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and integrate complex hardware on OEM vehicle platforms, including electrical distribution systems and vehicle networks.
- Create CAD assemblies and detailed drawings for fabrication and assembly, ensuring platform-specific requirements are met.
- Develop and maintain electrical harness designs, part designs, and manufacturing methods.
- Collaborate with build technicians to assemble and test prototype hardware on vehicles.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical system integration issues between Aurora technology and OEM vehicles.
- Support development, validation, and certification of vehicle systems, ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Manage subsystem requirements, BOMs, schedules, and documentation for assigned projects.
- Develop workflows and processes to enhance team capabilities and project efficiency.
Requirements
- Work within the Hardware Product Engineering group collaborating on integration of complex hardware on OEM vehicle platforms.
- Responsible for electrical distribution system designs including automotive grade wire and cable harnesses, electromechanical components, device connectors, and vehicle networks.
- Design CAD assemblies integrating Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTs) and internally developed hardware modules, in various zones of a vehicle.
- Adapt integration assemblies to multiple vehicle types such as cars and trucks, understanding the platform-specific requirements.
- Deliver well-engineered 3D and 2D CAD packages to internal and external vendors for fabrication and assembly.
- Detail 2D drawings with appropriate views, notes, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for proper fabrication.
- Maintain a solid understanding of various part design and manufacturing methods including harnessing, clipping, fluid routing, machining, injection molding, sheet metal, forming, and casting.
- Ensure technical designs are implemented during development, prototype builds, and launch phases.
- Engage with build technicians to assemble and test prototype hardware on the vehicles.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and build teams to prototype and assemble designs on the vehicles for validation.
- Resolve electrical and mechanical interfaces between Aurora technology and OEM vehicle systems.
- Diagnose system integration issues and pinpoint resolutions.
- Collaborate to support the development and implementation of cross-functional requirements.
- Maintain platform certification and regulatory compliance by working closely with internal Safety, Legal, and Regulatory teams.
- Track all details of assigned sub-systems including requirements, Bills of Materials (BOMs), mass roll-ups, and schedules.
- Develop new workflows and processes to expand the team’s capabilities.
- Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Possess detailed knowledge with CAD design and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
- Have intuitive knowledge of harness design, part design, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to own projects and sub-systems as an independent self-starter.
- Demonstrate strong technical documentation and communication skills for technical information.
- Possess strong 2D and 3D CAD skills with Catia 3DX, SolidWorks, Creo, NX, Zuken E3, or comparable CAD tools.
