Job Description
The Staff Functional Safety Engineer at Aurora is responsible for performing safety analysis, developing safety concepts, and ensuring the safety of autonomous vehicle systems through fault management and risk assessment, supporting the development of self-driving technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform safety analysis at all system levels to identify vulnerabilities
- Derive safety requirements and safety goals from analysis
- Build and maintain functional and technical safety concepts for autonomous systems
- Conduct Failure Modes, Effects, and Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
- Perform hazard analysis and risk assessments (HARA)
- Create, manage, and maintain safety requirements and processes
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop fault management strategies
- Serve as safety subject matter expert in safety-critical design decisions
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree, Master of Science or PhD in Engineering or related discipline
- Minimum 7 years of experience working in functional safety, system safety, or safety engineering
- Experience performing Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
- Ability to demonstrate a proven track record of successfully working with large, complex teams in a results-driven environment
- Ability to perform implementation-agnostic safety analysis for complex designs
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and evolving priorities
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Working knowledge of ISO 26262 safety standard

Compensation/salary range: $162,000 - $260,000 per year
