Job Description
The Senior Vehicle Platform Systems Safety Engineer at Aurora is responsible for developing and analyzing vehicle platform requirements, ensuring safety and performance standards are met, and supporting system integration, testing, and process improvements within the autonomous vehicle ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop system-level requirements for vehicle platforms based on application, operation domain, and hardware generations
- Analyze vehicle platform architectures, systems, and interfaces to identify functional, safety, or performance gaps
- Generate platform-specific integration and fault-handling requirements for autonomy teams
- Create, document, and execute detailed system test plans to verify system requirements
- Provide evidence to support vehicle platform safety and performance claims in Aurora's Safety Case
- Support vehicle system commissioning, fault injection, data analysis, and fleet troubleshooting
- Coordinate with OEM and supplier partners to improve processes and requirements management
Requirements
- Experience designing and evaluating systems relative to automotive safety standards ISO 26262
- Four or more years of experience engineering and or integrating complex automotive or robotic systems
- Experience managing requirements, traceability, reviews, and releases in industry-standard tools
- Strong data analysis skills and experience designing and executing experiments on electrical, mechanical, and software systems
- Knowledge of automotive system architectures and interactions at a component and system level (e.g., control system, electrical system, electro-mechanical system)
- Detailed knowledge of automotive communication standards and hands-on experience root causing vehicle issues based on logged data
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate efforts and requirements across a large number of stakeholders, internal and external, and across multiple locations
- BS or MS degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or another relevant engineering field
- Strong physics and engineering fundamentals spanning electrical, mechanical, and software systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
