Job Description
The Senior Photonics Engineer will design and develop high-power III-V active devices for lidar systems, managing the full development cycle from epitaxial design to fabrication, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize performance for self-driving technology applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and layout of high-power III-V active devices, including preparing GDS for SOA reticles
- Manage relationships with foundries to ensure mask delivery and track fabrication milestones
- Develop Python-based software and workflows for analyzing test results of DFB and SOA devices
- Own and iterate on SOA component designs, correlating design changes with empirical test data
- Collaborate with Test, Packaging, and Reliability teams to incorporate their feedback into device designs
Requirements
- Own the design and layout of high-power active devices, specifically delivering reviewable GDS for SOA reticles.
- Act as the primary technical interface with foundries to execute mask delivery and track critical fabrication milestones.
- Develop Python-based software and JMP workflows to analyze DFB and SOA test results.
- Function as the Owner for SOA component iterations, correlating design changes to empirical test data.
- Partner with Test, Packaging, and Reliability teams to integrate their feedback into design decisions.
- Hold a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Solid State Physics, or Optoelectronics.
- Possess deep mastery of light-matter interaction in high-intensity fields and epitaxial design related to laser physics.
- Demonstrate proven expertise in the design of high-power III-V active devices.
- Be proficient in industry-standard simulation tools including PhotonDesign, Lumerical, and RSoft.
- Have hands-on experience with process design and managing development workflows with external foundries.
- Have high proficiency in Python for layout scripting and data automation.
- Possess a strong background in testing and data analysis of semiconductor lasers.
