Job Description
The Senior Hardware NPI Engineer at Aurora is responsible for guiding hardware development from concept to low-volume manufacturing, ensuring quality, process control, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced, evolving environment within the self-driving technology industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide hardware from concept review to low-volume manufacturing, including design review and process selection.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing standards, design guidelines, and documentation such as control plans, BOMs, work instructions, and process flow diagrams.
- Support manufacturing through all phases of APQP, including process validation, trial runs, and PPAPs.
- Research and implement new manufacturing processes and guide design engineers on their use.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams for planning, logistics, and design reviews.
- Lead or participate in continuous improvement activities like Kaizen to enhance processes and products.
- Conduct rapid problem-solving activities for prototype and production manufacturing challenges.
- Work with internal production and external contract manufacturers to ensure successful hardware launches.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years experience in engineering role with experience working in low to high volume production environments.
- Experience with launching hardware products and the product life cycle, and selecting the right-sized process based on the needs of the program.
- Experience with working with supply chain and vendors.
- Working knowledge of GD T.
- Experience with 3D CAD and PDM PLM, preferably Catia Solidworks and Enovia EPDM.
- Ability to live and work in a high output constantly evolving environment wearing many hats that include everything from concepts to sustaining engineering.
- Extensive design experience that can be leveraged to successfully work with cross-functional partners like the internal design team and external CMs.
- Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Willingness to travel internationally up to 35%, including evening conference calls with CMs in Asia 2-3 times a week.
