Job Description
The Senior Benefits Specialist at Aurora is responsible for managing employee leave of absence and workers' compensation programs, providing benefits guidance, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, and delivering high-quality customer service to employees and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary contact for leave of absence and ADAAA requests, supporting employees from initial request to return to work.
- Validate leave pay vouchers provided by third-party leave administrators for employees on various pay schedules.
- Provide technical guidance and advice to managers and People Business Partners on Workers Compensation issues.
- Serve as a liaison between injured employees and third-party administrators to facilitate return-to-work processes.
- Manage workers compensation claims, resolve escalated issues, and develop policies and procedures related to workers compensation and return-to-work programs.
- Ensure compliance with workers compensation regulations across multiple states.
- Facilitate annual workers compensation claims reviews.
- Respond to benefits-related inquiries from employees and external partners, delivering high-quality customer service.
- Provide benefits guidance to employees on various benefits topics, including policy interpretation and leave management.
- Maintain compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations.
Requirements
- Act as the point of contact for our third party LOA administrator to support leave of absence administration and ADAAA requests beginning with the initial leave request through their return to work for all leave types including workers compensation.
- Validate the accuracy of leave pay vouchers provided by third party Leave Administrator for employees on leave for multiple pay schedule frequencies.
- Provide technical guidance and advice to managers and People Business Partners regarding Workers Compensation issues.
- Assist the return to work third party administrator and serve as liaison between injured employees and third party administrators in relation to returning injured employees back to work.
- Act as the point of contact for workers compensation claims, resolve escalated workers compensation issues, and facilitate a smooth return-to-work process for injured employees.
- Develop workers compensation policies, procedures, and return to work programs throughout the workers compensation process from claim initiation to closure.
- Have a solid understanding and experience with workers compensation regulations and requirements in operating states including California (CA), Montana (MT), Pennsylvania (PA), Texas (TX), Washington (WA), Colorado (CO), and Michigan (MI).
- Facilitate annual workers compensation claims review.
- Act as the initial point of contact for benefits related questions through the Help Desk, such as policy and process explanation.
- Deliver high level customer service to employees, colleagues, and external partners by providing timely and accurate responses to requests and inquiries.
- Provide benefits guidance to employees on a variety of benefits topics including policy interpretation.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Confidently navigate and manage a high volume of incoming requests, effectively prioritize tickets, and ensure requests are addressed in a timely manner.
- Possess a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Human Resources with at least 3 years focusing on employee benefits.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or have equivalent experience.
- Have knowledge of employee benefits programs and the relevant laws and regulations that govern them, including medical, dental, vision, life, short and long term disability, COBRA, ERISA, flexible spending accounts, and retiree benefits.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills to provide benefit and leave of absence information and interpret policies and contracts to managers and employees.
- Have experience managing relationships with third party vendors such as leave of absence and workers compensation providers.
- Be experienced with Help Desk Ticketing systems, preferably Workday Help.
- Demonstrate strong people skills and the ability to connect with individuals at all organizational levels.
- Be able to work independently and cross-functionally across all levels of the organization.
- Handle highly confidential data with sensitivity and confidentiality.
- Accurately prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Adapt to a continuously changing environment and recalibrate work accordingly.
- Possess advanced proficiency in G-suite applications, especially Sheets, Docs, and Slides, and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
