Job Description

The Project Surveyor role involves leading survey activities for oil, gas, and energy infrastructure projects, ensuring accurate data collection, preparing CAD deliverables, and coordinating with clients and project teams to support construction, layout, and boundary determinations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify and process field survey data measurements and calculations
  • Produce base surveys, surfaces, contours, utilities, site features, and boundaries
  • Prepare CAD deliverables including ALTA NSPS, boundary, topographic, site, and construction staking plans
  • Review field notes, perform quality control on plats and drawings, and calculate stakeout points and alignments
  • Research and draft easements from title reports and review public records for boundary and right-of-way determinations
  • Coordinate with project managers and clients on scope, schedule, and priorities
  • Maintain organized project documentation and ensure compliance with standards
  • Mentor and guide project team members, assist with task assignments, and review work to meet quality and deadline targets

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or equivalent experience
  • Active survey license (PS, PLS, RLS) or ability to obtain one per state requirements
  • Five years of progressive surveying experience under a licensed surveyor; eight years preferred
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and CAD drafting workflows for survey deliverables
  • Experience with Trimble data collectors, GPS, robotic total stations, and Trimble Business Center data processing and QA
  • Strong working knowledge of construction layout, boundary retracement legal principles, geodetic datums, coordinate systems, projections, and field-to-finish techniques
  • Ability to verify and process field survey data measurements, calculations, and produce base surveys, surfaces, contours, utilities, site features, and boundaries
  • Ability to prepare CAD deliverables including ALTA NSPS, boundary, topographic, site, and construction staking plans
  • Experience with research and drafting easements from title reports, reviewing public records for boundary, easement, and right-of-way determinations
  • Experience with title easement research for corridors, boundary control, and monumentation across linear projects
  • Experience with QA/QC of EPC design survey inputs and coordination with inspection, environmental, and construction teams
  • Experience with construction staking and as-built surveys for pipelines, gathering systems, terminals, and compressor pump stations
  • Experience with drill pad, well pad stakeout, centerlines, and grading as-built verification for drilling programs
  • Experience with pipeline routing and right-of-way surveys, including OH UG, valve sites, meter stations, and facility layout
  • Experience with title easement research for corridors, boundary control, and monumentation across linear projects
  • Familiarity with client-facing communication, scope, schedule, and budget management
  • Ability to support kickoff meetings and status updates, and maintain organized project documentation
  • Strong software skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Bluebeam Revu, ArcGIS, and Google Earth (additional software skills are a plus)
  • Physical ability to perform field tasks including survey data collection, stakeout, and site layout
  • Familiarity with oil and gas energy projects, including pipeline routing, right-of-way surveys, and facility layout
  • Experience with construction staking and as-built surveys for pipelines, gathering systems, terminals, and compressor stations
  • Experience with drill pad, well pad stakeout, centerlines, and grading verification for drilling programs
  • Knowledge of legal principles related to boundary retracement and monumentation
  • Familiarity with data management, photo logs, checklists, and structured field data (preferred)
  • Experience with CO₂, RNG, hydrogen, or electric T&D surveys in addition to oil and gas corridors (preferred)
