Job Description

An Energy Analyst Intern at Ascend Analytics will support energy decision analysis through quantitative modeling, market forecasting, and strategic planning to aid in the transition to cleaner energy sources, working on projects related to resource planning, renewable generation, and risk management for electric utilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use analytics to support energy decision analysis in resource planning, renewable generation, energy storage, market forecasting, and risk management.
  • Perform quantitative analysis integrating technical, economic, market, and regulatory factors.
  • Validate and troubleshoot models with attention to detail.
  • Research, present, and justify market forecasts and assumptions.
  • Provide expertise to clients in analytic modeling related to risk management, asset valuation, and resource planning.
  • Create reports, visualizations, and presentations to communicate complex information.
  • Leverage analytical tools such as Excel, Python, or R for market forecasting and analysis.

Requirements

  • Must be a senior undergraduate, graduate student, or early alumni with strong academic performance, specifically a GPA of 3.4 or higher.
  • Must be willing and able to relocate to Boulder, CO for the summer or semester.
  • Must have a strong quantitative background, such as studies in economics, computer science, physics, engineering, math, energy systems, or another highly quantitative discipline.
  • Preference for candidates with coursework in economics, programming, and statistics, with level dependent on focus area.
  • Must have a passion for creating analytical solutions for the energy transition.
  • Must demonstrate great teamwork skills and the ability to communicate effectively in collaborative projects.
  • Must possess a high degree of ownership and commitment to tasks.
  • Must have a proactive can-do attitude.
  • Must have experience or familiarity with analytical tools such as Excel, Python, or R for market forecasting and analysis.
  • Must be able to perform quantitative analysis combining technical considerations, economic factors, market rules, and regulatory policy developments.
  • Must be able to validate and troubleshoot models with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Must be able to understand, research, present, and justify market forecasts and underlying assumptions.
  • Must be able to synthesize complex information into understandable reports, visualizations, and presentations.
  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively as needed to achieve objectives.

Compensation: $25.00 - $30.00 hourly, with potential additional compensation for higher degree levels or specialized skills
