Job Description
A Senior Software Engineer at Amber develops and maintains the company's energy management platform, working on full-stack applications that optimize household energy usage and support renewable energy integration using technologies like React Native, AWS Lambda, Typescript, and GraphQL.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and support home automation integrations for batteries, hot water systems, pool pumps, and upcoming EVs.
- Create and maintain mobile web applications for monitoring and managing energy usage.
- Build and optimize a real-time pricing and billing engine for energy pricing.
- Develop and enhance marketing websites and tools to drive customer growth.
- Contribute to the development of the tech stack, including React Native, React web frontends, AWS Lambda backend, Typescript, and GraphQL.
- Manage and optimize data storage in DynamoDB and Postgres based on workload requirements.
Requirements
- Proven experience in software engineering or full-stack development with a strong understanding of React Native mobile app development, React web frontends, and a Serverless Lambda backend on AWS.
- Proficiency in Typescript programming language, with the ability to work across the entire tech stack from front-end to backend.
- Experience working with Apollo GraphQL in the middle layer of the application architecture.
- Experience working with data storage solutions such as DynamoDB and Postgres, and the ability to select the appropriate database for specific workloads.
- Ability to develop and support home automation integrations to batteries, hot water systems, pool pumps, and EVs, including control of electricity usage in response to pricing and renewable availability.
- Experience developing mobile web applications for customers to monitor and manage their energy usage.
- Experience developing and maintaining a pricing and billing engine for real-time energy pricing.
- Experience working in a collaborative, full-stack-ish environment where team members contribute across different layers of the technology stack.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Full-time availability, ideally based in Melbourne, Australia, or willing to work remotely within Australia.
- Legal right to work in Australia with full working rights.
- Willingness to participate in a flexible work schedule, including options such as 4 days a week or 9 days a fortnight once fully ramped up.
- Ability to participate in a multi-stage interview process including a screening interview, a take-home technical challenge (max 4 hours), a follow-up interview with engineering team members, and a final culture interview with engineering leadership.
