Job Description
The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead the design, delivery, and technical management of large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems, ensuring integration with project and grid requirements, and supporting construction, commissioning, and asset management activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical, mechanical, and control system design and delivery of multi-megawatt-scale BESS projects.
- Develop concept layouts, Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), cable schedules, and technical specifications for BoP contractors.
- Manage BoP contractor deliverables, conduct design reviews, and oversee equipment selection and analysis.
- Attend FATs and SATs, and support construction and commissioning activities.
- Liaise with AEMO, network providers, and contractors on system specifications, design, and operations.
- Contribute to project feasibility reviews and technical gate review documentation.
- Support asset management planning, including condition monitoring and maintenance practices.
- Lead failure mode analysis, root cause analysis, and engineering optimization activities.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Electrical, Electronic or Power Systems Engineering
- At least 8 years of experience in a generation, renewables, transmission or distribution electrical engineering role
- Extensive technical knowledge of engineering systems, calculations, application of engineering methods and materials
- Experience and demonstrated knowledge of primary and secondary electrical system design for renewable generators and HV substations
- Understanding of SCADA and communications systems in a substation environment
- Experience working on utility-scale energy storage systems, renewable energy projects or transmission system design and delivery
- Familiarity with the National Electricity Rules and Generator Performance Standards
- Awareness of Australian engineering codes of practices, standards, and guidelines
- Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be an Australian citizen, hold permanent residency status, or have existing Australian working rights
