Job Description
The Senior Finance Associate supports financial management, compliance, and reporting for a donor-funded program in West Africa, ensuring accurate accounting, grant management, statutory compliance, and operational financial oversight to promote responsible resource utilization and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Support financial management of a donor-funded program, ensuring expenditures align with budgets and donor restrictions
- Track program burn rates, pipeline projections, and cash flow needs
- Prepare financial reports for internal leadership and global finance
- Process and review financial transactions, manage month-end close, and prepare financial statements
- Manage treasury functions including cash flow forecasting, liquidity planning, and vendor payments
- Ensure statutory compliance with local tax obligations and coordinate external audits
- Verify procurement processes, review expense reports, and reconcile vendor invoices
- Collaborate with global finance on grants, cost allocations, and intercompany processes
- Support program teams with financial guidance and maintain data accuracy in financial systems
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in accounting, audit, or program finance.
- Professional certification required, such as ACCA, CPA, ICAN, or equivalent.
- Experience working with donor-funded programs, foundations, institutional donors, or government funding.
- Demonstrated experience managing statutory compliance in Nigeria and familiarity with broader West African contexts is an asset.
- Advanced Excel skills proficiency in NetSuite or similar ERP systems preferred.
- Experience supporting audits and multi-entity financial environments.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to build relationships and work effectively in teams.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
