Job Description
The Account Executive at Planet will be responsible for acquiring new customers and managing existing relationships, primarily focusing on U.S. Federal Government agencies, particularly within the Department of Homeland Security. This role involves developing sales strategies, generating leads, and closing complex deals to drive business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Find new customers and manage existing relationships to grow sales.
- Develop a strategic account engagement plan with colleagues.
- Generate pipeline and revenue from new agencies through prospecting.
- Drive engagement and commercial relationships with existing customers.
- Identify channel and reseller relationships to expand market presence.
- Collaborate with Sales Engineers for meetings and presentations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date pipeline and sales forecast.
Requirements
- 6 years of sales experience, of which 5 years is experience in Software and/or Data as a Service sales.
- Demonstrated success in self-directed prospecting, identifying and closing business with new customers.
- Understanding of complex government sales cycles and how to navigate multiple government agencies and divisions.
- Experience working in or with the Department of Homeland Security, any military branch, or Department of Defense.
- Ability to forecast accurately and manage a pipeline of opportunities.
- Ability to source, sell, co-sell, and close large deals carrying quota.
- Ability to run deep discovery meetings by identifying and understanding the prospect's challenges and needs, gaining consensus with multiple stakeholders, and engaging in complex pricing negotiations.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Self-starter, able to work independently under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
- The ability to interact successfully across cultures.
- Negotiation and persuasion skills.
- Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
- Live in the Washington DC metro area.
- Experience with CRM, outreach tools, and forecasting solutions.

US base salary range of 105,150 - 131,450 USD
