Job Description
The Director of AI Data Platform is responsible for leading the development and management of the foundational data infrastructure that enables AI solutions, including designing pipelines for unstructured data, ensuring data quality and governance, and overseeing operational excellence to support enterprise AI initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of pipelines for unstructured data sources, including document parsing, OCR, and text normalization
- Design and oversee indexing strategies optimized for LLM consumption, including semantic chunking, embedding, and hybrid search architectures
- Establish metadata extraction protocols for high-fidelity knowledge capture
- Define standards and tooling for data ingestion from client systems, including batch and streaming data
- Build reusable connectors and canonical schemas to streamline data ingestion processes
- Implement data governance measures such as data contracts, automated validation, PII redaction, encryption, and audit trails
- Define and maintain SLAs and SLOs for data pipelines, ensuring data freshness, uptime, and failure management
- Optimize cloud-native infrastructure costs and establish monitoring and incident response procedures
- Architect and manage data infrastructure to support operational efficiency and internal IP development
- Lead and scale a team of data and platform engineers, providing documentation, standards, and self-service tools
Requirements
- 10 years of experience in data-heavy engineering or platform environments
- 2 years leading platform or data engineering teams
- Proven track record of delivering reusable internal data capabilities rather than one-off pipelines
- Strong software engineering foundation with a platform mindset
- Mandatory experience with Vector Databases such as Pinecone, Milvus, or Weaviate
- Proven ability to structure enterprise data for LLMs, including chunking, enrichment, embedding, and relationship mapping
- Deep expertise in SQL, ETL ELT, and data modeling
- Strong experience with parsing, OCR, metadata enrichment, and unstructured pipelines
- Experience with cloud-native architectures including Containers and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Strong operational mindset across monitoring, alerting, and cost management
- Strong proficiency in LLM concepts and AI-ready data design
