Job Description
A summer internship position within Toyota Research Institute's Robotics User Experience team, focusing on designing intuitive physical and digital interfaces for managing and interacting with robots in a factory environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design intuitive physical and digital experiences for managing and interacting with robots in a factory setting.
- Develop digital interfaces for managing a fleet of mobile robots within a factory environment.
- Create tools to assist factory team members in ensuring the quality of manufactured parts.
- Design physical and digital interaction methods between humans and robots.
- Extend and test platforms for prototyping and evaluating robotics user experience concepts.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree program in a relevant field such as Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience Design, Robotics, Computer Science, or related disciplines.
- Ability to design intuitive physical and digital experiences for managing and interacting with robots in a factory context.
- Experience or familiarity with designing digital interfaces for managing a fleet of mobile robots within a factory setting.
- Experience or familiarity with developing tools for assisting factory team members in assuring the quality of manufactured parts.
- Knowledge of physical and digital methods for interacting with robots and for robots to interact with humans.
- Ability to extend a platform for prototyping and testing robotics UX concepts.
- Availability to work a 12-week paid internship during Summer 2026.
- Willingness to work in an in-office role at TRI’s Los Altos, CA office.
