A research internship focused on developing advanced human-AI shared control systems for vehicle safety and performance, involving the creation of planning, control algorithms, and machine learning approaches to enhance driver assistance technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Develop novel planning and control algorithms to ensure safety in challenging driving scenarios
Improve performance of existing shared control algorithms under uncertain conditions
Implement data-driven machine learning approaches to shared control with safety guarantees
Research human-AI collaboration methods to support safe, intuitive, and responsive shared driving systems
Requirements
Currently enrolled in or have completed a relevant degree program in fields such as computer science, robotics, electrical engineering, or related disciplines.
Experience or knowledge in developing novel planning and control algorithms to guarantee safety amid challenging driving scenarios.
Experience or knowledge in improving performance of shared control algorithms under uncertain conditions.
Experience or knowledge in implementing data-driven machine learning approaches to shared control with safety guarantees.
Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with professional researchers and team members.
Ability to apply knowledge to tackle novel research questions related to human-AI collaboration in driving systems.
Availability to participate in a 12-week summer internship in Summer 2026 at Toyota Research Institute headquarters.
Willingness to work in a hybrid in-office role during the internship period.
