Job Description

An experienced physical biofuels sales trader responsible for originating, structuring, and executing biofuel transactions across North America, focusing on feedstock procurement, trade modeling, and building client relationships within a growing trading desk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Originate, negotiate, and execute physical biofuels and feedstock trades across the full value chain.
  • Develop and apply trade models to analyze feedstock-to-fuel economics, blending dynamics, and arbitrage opportunities.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities by building relationships with market participants such as producers, refiners, and end-users.
  • Structure and execute end-to-end transactions, including negotiating commercial terms and coordinating logistics to optimize trade economics.
  • Incorporate carbon intensity, regulatory developments, and market dynamics into pricing, risk management, and portfolio optimization.
  • Collaborate with strategy and environmental teams to unlock integrated physical and credit market opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field
  • 4 to 8 years of experience in physical biofuels, renewable fuels, or adjacent commodity trading environments such as oil, gas, chemicals, or agricultural commodities
  • Proven track record of originating and executing physical supply and offtake agreements in commodity trading
  • Strong commercial, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Solid understanding of biofuels markets, including feedstocks, production pathways, and North American logistics infrastructure, with a focus on rail transport
  • Experience with financial modeling and trade economics, including P&L modeling, arbitrage analysis, and pricing structures
  • Familiarity with carbon intensity (CI), lifecycle analysis, and the interaction between physical markets and environmental credit programs
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to build new business and establish trust with a broad range of market participants
  • Ability and willingness to relocate or be based in New York or Houston, United States
