Job Description
The role involves leading the development and scale-up of advanced battery materials through experimental design, characterization, and collaboration, to support the creation of high-performance, scalable lithium-ion battery products that facilitate the transition to renewable energy.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and analyze experiments to optimize product development
- Document and communicate research findings to partners and stakeholders
- Balance product requirements with manufacturability and de-risk process scale-up
- Develop characterization and testing methods to enhance scientific understanding and manufacturing processes
- Identify safety hazards and implement safety improvements
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners on materials synthesis, process development, and new product development
Requirements
- Masters in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry with 6 years of relevant industry experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Expertise in advanced materials research, process development, statistical analysis, and advanced data analysis tools such as Python, database mining, and JMP
- Deep understanding of state-of-the-art material characterization techniques including SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, Raman spectroscopy, and Gas Chromatography
- Proven success collaborating in highly technical, interdisciplinary settings with internal and external development partners and suppliers
- Ability to clearly communicate technical findings to diverse audiences through verbal, written, and presentation formats
- Experience with materials-based new product development and/or battery materials and electrochemical testing (considered a plus)
- Six Sigma experience with either Green or Black Belt certification (considered a plus)
- Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on a periodic basis
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment including lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
- Ability to use a glove box to prepare samples
- Ability to operate analytical equipment at a bench
- Ability to move items up to 25 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts
- Ability to move long distances such as from building to building and remain stationary for extended periods
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, and printer in a fixed location
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $151,000 to $191,000
Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 6:00pm
Work environment perks: Onsite work, use of personal protective equipment, ability to operate analytical equipment, movement of items up to 25 lbs, use of a glove box
