Job Description
A Research Associate role focused on developing high-energy lithium-ion batteries by performing experimental slurry mixing, electrode coating, and characterization techniques in a collaborative laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform lab-scale experimental slurry mixing and drawdown coating
- Characterize slurries and coatings using techniques such as viscosity, rheology, resistivity, peel tests, and microscopy
- Manage accurate records of work using an online sample management database
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot characterization equipment
- Document results and communicate findings to scientists and engineers
- Collaborate with technicians, engineers, and scientists to troubleshoot and resolve issues
- Ensure a safe and clean work environment, following safety protocols
Requirements
- Prior hands-on lab experience, preferably in the field of batteries.
- Experience in characterization techniques such as viscosity, rheology, peel tests, resistivity, confocal microscopy, and mandrel test.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent analytical experience with a focus in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field.
- Ability to perform lab-scale experimental slurry mixing and drawdown coating.
- Ability to characterize slurries and coatings, including measuring viscosity, total solid content, density, and uniformity.
- Ability to manage accurate records of work using an online sample management database.
- Proficiency in using PowerPoint and Word tools to clearly communicate findings.
- Ability to operate analytical equipment at a lab bench.
- Ability to handle and maintain research equipment safely and effectively.
- Understanding and respect for hazardous materials and processes, including working safely, keeping a clean environment, and reporting incidents.
- Physical ability to wear personal protective equipment including lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and safety toe shoes.
- Ability to pass a respirator fit test and wear respiratory protection when needed.
- Ability to operate a glove box and/or fume hood to prepare samples.
- Ability to move items up to 25 lbs with assistance and move long distances such as from building to building.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, and printer.
- Repetitive use of hands and handling of materials from light to forceful.
- Availability to work a regular shift Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $31.73/hr to $41.23/hr, with potential for overtime
Work schedule: Regular shift, Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 6:00pm
