Job Description
The Operations Technician will support research and prototyping efforts by working closely with engineers to develop and test new processes for manufacturing large, high-performance fiber-reinforced polymer composites used in construction and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with engineers and designers to develop and test new processes for fabricating large FRP components
- Assist in bringing ideas from concept to prototype through hands-on experimentation
- Conduct testing and evaluation of new materials and manufacturing techniques for high-performance FRPs
Requirements
- Work closely with engineers and designers to bring ideas to life, test new processes, and help shape the future of our products.
- Possess experience in prototyping, experimental work, or related technical roles involving fabrication and testing of materials or components.
- Ability to work on-site directly fabricating large components, including handling oversize high-performance fiber-reinforced polymer composites (FRPs).
- Knowledge of or experience with fiber-reinforced polymer composites (FRPs) and their processing, especially innovations in resin chemistry.
- Experience working with or supporting research and development (R D) efforts, including testing and process validation.
- Ability to collaborate closely with engineers and designers to develop and refine manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment focused on rapid prototyping and manufacturing of large components.
- Physical ability to perform fabrication tasks, which may include handling large materials and operating manufacturing equipment.
- Experience or familiarity with working in environments supported by or collaborating with research institutions such as Oak Ridge National Laboratory, or similar organizations.
- Ability to contribute to projects involving building large-scale infrastructure components such as buildings, bridges, wind turbines, or other applications in infrastructure and energy sectors.
