Job Description

A Mechanical Engineering Intern Co-op at Perseus will participate in research and prototyping efforts related to the development of high-performance fiber-reinforced polymer composites, working closely with engineers and designers to test new processes and help shape innovative building materials and manufacturing techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to develop and test new processes for manufacturing FRPs.
  • Assist in prototyping efforts to bring product ideas to life.
  • Support research and development activities related to large-scale component fabrication.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering program or related field with on-track to full-time employment
  • Ability to work as a Mechanical engineering intern co-op in a research and prototyping environment
  • Experience working closely with engineers and designers to bring ideas to life, test new processes, and help shape the future of products
  • Ability to directly fabricate large components on-site to support manufacturing and construction processes
  • Knowledge of fiber-reinforced polymer composites (FRPs), including their properties and processing methods
  • Understanding that FRP processing can be improved through innovations in resin chemistry
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment focused on building big and building fast
  • Ability to collaborate with research institutions such as Oak Ridge National Laboratory and support from agencies like the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, and ARPA-E
