Job Description
The Senior Regulatory Specialist at RES is responsible for leading the preparation of environmental permit documents, coordinating with regulatory agencies, and guiding ecological restoration projects through complex regulatory processes to ensure compliance and successful project implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and submission of environmental permit documents for restoration projects
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies to facilitate permitting processes
- Manage agency communications, lead permitting discussions, and build relationships with regulators
- Oversee data collection, site evaluations, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Prepare regulatory deliverables such as reports, permit applications, and assessments
- Mentor junior staff and lead interdisciplinary teams in regulatory strategies
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, geology, or related natural physical science field
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in environmental permitting or regulatory compliance
- Expertise in preparing and submitting environmental permit documents
- Advanced understanding of key regulations such as CWA 404 401, NWP IP, NPDES, ESA, and the 2008 Mitigation Rule
- Proficient in field data collection, sampling protocols, and QA/QC procedures
- Familiarity with regional regulatory frameworks and credit release schedules
- Experience in technical writing and data analysis related to environmental projects
- Experience with agency coordination, public presentations, and client communication
- Ability to lead the preparation of permit documents and coordinate with regulatory agencies
- Ability to serve as the primary point of contact for compliance and approvals
- Ability to review permit applications, gather ecological data, and evaluate site conditions for permitting risk
- Experience preparing regulatory deliverables such as monitoring reports, permit applications, or functional assessments
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams and translating technical information into regulatory success
