Job Description
An Environmental Engineering Intern at RES supports ecological restoration projects through fieldwork, data analysis, and design tasks, gaining hands-on experience in restoring ecosystems, water resources, and habitats while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to promote sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Support ecological restoration design and engineering projects, including developing plans and technical reports.
- Conduct field surveys to collect data on stream flow, habitat, erosion potential, and site conditions.
- Assist in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using software such as HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS to analyze runoff and floodplain connections.
- Create preliminary and detailed restoration designs using AutoCAD or Civil 3D, including sizing channels and in-stream features.
- Inspect construction sites to ensure adherence to design plans and prepare As-Build plans post-construction.
Requirements
- Currently a rising junior in environmental engineering, civil engineering, biological systems engineering, agricultural engineering, or water resources engineering or a related field with a minimum of 55 hours of undergraduate credits.
- Familiarity with hydrology and hydraulics.
- Familiarity with GIS or mapping tools.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Keen interest in ecological restoration and sustainable development.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in both office and field settings.
