Job Description
Curiosity – Seek, learn, share
Key Responsibilities
The Project Engineer - Advanced Development & Simulation is responsible for performing thermal and structural simulations of engine systems and electrical generators systems including enclosures.
Leverage computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools including STAR-CCM+ and uFx to optimize engine thermal management systems including fan designs, radiator core selection, and surrounding mechanical structure to ensure generator set cooling targets are achieved.
Utilize analytic methods including CFD to model restriction of piping systems including fuel delivery systems and engine exhaust systems to confirm performance targets are achieved.
Leverage structural simulation tools (FEA) to evaluate safety and product performance of engines and generator sets including accessories like tanks and enclosures.
Prepare CAD geometry for structural and thermal simulation to minimize complexity and size of the geometry.
Gather and organize simulation requirements from internal product team to ensure all inputs and success criteria are available before start of simulation.
Perform experimental measurements for thermal and fluid flow for validation to ensure accuracy of simulation assumptions and modeling.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
Experience with commercial CAD tools and proven ability to manage large CAD assemblies.
Two years of experience successfully performing in a similar role (including graduate school) or industry, demonstrating the ability to meet performance goals and contribute to team outcomes
Proven ability to apply knowledge and skills in real-world work environments
Experience with Siemens STAR-CCM+
Experience with Altair FEA simulation products
Master's degree in mechanical engineering
