Job Description
The Senior Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineer is responsible for developing and validating flight-control logic for the seaglider, ensuring stability, responsiveness, and safety during various flight modes, while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to certification and future development efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and develop the seaglider's flight-control logic to ensure stability, responsiveness, and safety during various flight modes.
- Design control laws that harmonize aerodynamic and hydrodynamic surfaces and manage take-off and landing on water.
- Validate control system designs through high-fidelity simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and sea trials on prototypes.
- Develop fault-tolerant control strategies and robust state-estimation algorithms for the vehicle.
- Mentor junior engineers and influence the flight-controls development roadmap.
- Contribute to the certification process of the vehicle's control systems.
Requirements
- Experience in owning and developing flight-control logic for vehicles, including stability, responsiveness, and safety during transitions such as displacement to hydrofoil to wing-in-ground-effect flight.
- Proficiency in crafting control laws that harmonize aerodynamic and hydrodynamic surfaces, manage take-off and touchdown on water, and ensure graceful handling in gusty, wave-affected conditions.
- Ability to validate control system designs in high-fidelity simulation environments.
- Experience in proving control strategies using hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Experience in refining control systems on both sub-scale and full-scale prototypes during sea trials.
- Development of fault-tolerant control strategies for maritime vehicles.
- Development of robust state-estimation loops for vehicle control systems.
- Mentoring junior engineers in control system development and implementation.
- Influence and contribute to the flight-controls roadmap and certification process for maritime vehicles.
- Strong background in engineering, with a focus on guidance, navigation, and control systems for complex vehicles.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a software engineering team to solve complex technical challenges.
- High level of engineering rigor and attention to detail in control system development.
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment, think boldly, and push technological boundaries.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to innovative, real-world engineering projects involving hands-on development and testing.
