The role involves leading process engineering efforts for a new battery recycling plant, including process design, equipment selection, optimization, and commissioning to support Redwood Materials' energy transition initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Own and develop process design, including process modeling, mass and energy balances, and design documentation
Develop and optimize flowsheets for battery recycling processes
Specify, size, and select process equipment
Integrate processing assets to maximize product value
Iterate rapidly to solve process challenges with innovative solutions
Communicate design concepts clearly across teams
Guide and analyze testwork to optimize and de-risk the process design
Lead commissioning and operational ramp-up of the recycling plant
Requirements
A B.S. or M.S. in Chemical or Process Engineering
8-10 years of experience in industrial process design, scale-up, and commissioning
Strong working knowledge of mechanical processing, material conveyance, and solid-liquid separation plant and equipment
Experience in process engineering design and commissioning
Ability to safely perform job duties in both office and production environments
Must maintain regular and punctual attendance in alignment with company and regulatory standards
Ability to communicate clearly
Work in a split environment between office and production facility, with the ability to work in challenging conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time
May require occasional work on weekends or alternate shifts to support production needs
