Job Description

A Service Engineer at Redwood Materials is responsible for diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues in Battery Energy Storage Systems, supporting operations and maintenance, and collaborating with engineering teams to improve system reliability and performance in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical escalation point for the Operations and Maintenance (O M) organization for complex issues.
  • Define escalation thresholds, handoff criteria, and response expectations between O M and Service Engineering.
  • Lead, mentor, and scale a team of Service Engineers providing tier-2 and tier-3 support.
  • Own investigation and resolution of complex electrical, controls, software, thermal, and system-integration issues.
  • Translate field and O M feedback into actionable requirements for Product, Systems, and R D Engineering teams.
  • Drive improvements in system serviceability, reliability, and maintainability through design and process changes.
  • Develop advanced service documentation such as troubleshooting guides, decision trees, and service bulletins.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 7 years of experience supporting complex electromechanical or power electronics systems including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), renewable energy, or industrial systems
  • Deep understanding of BESS system architecture, including batteries, PCS inverters, EMS, thermal management, and protection systems
  • Proven experience operating in a tiered support model such as Operations and Maintenance (O M), Service Engineering, and Product Engineering
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions safely and successfully in environments that may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
  • Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time
  • Essential physical requirements such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing
  • Ability to work occasional weekends, nights, or be on-call as a regular part of the job
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 40%

Benefits & Perks

Compensation/salary range: $150,000 - $207,000 USD
Work schedule: Full-time, occasional weekends and nights, on-call as needed
