Job Description

A Senior Process Engineer at Redwood Materials is responsible for supporting and improving chemical and metallurgical processes related to battery recycling, including plant design, commissioning, and operational support, with a focus on sustainability and innovation in the recycling industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure processes are safe, efficient, sustainable, and continuously improving in collaboration with operations and maintenance teams
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional teams to develop and implement new process plants and equipment
  • Design, test, and operate flowsheets and pilot plants for process development
  • Support process plant implementation, installation, commissioning, and ramp-up
  • Conduct process modeling, trade-off evaluations, and financial assessments for process improvements

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree (B.S.) or Master's degree (M.S.) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in Chemical Plant Operations and/or Design and Commissioning.
  • Experience in large-scale industrial processing.
  • Operational support experience with a proven track record of solving difficult chemical and metallurgical process problems and making plant improvements.
  • Testwork and pilot plant design and operation experience.
  • Process modelling experience using HSCSIM, SysCAD, METSIM, or similar software, including equipment sizing and linking testwork and pilot plant operation to real project implementation.
  • Experience conducting trade-off studies and financial evaluations related to process plant design and operation.
  • Experience in process plant design, implementation, installation, commissioning, and ramp-up.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to safely perform job duties in both office and production environments.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Ability to work in challenging conditions, including exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE.
  • Availability to work in a split environment between office and production facility, including extended periods in the production environment.
  • Willingness to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, for extended periods.
  • Availability to work occasional weekends or alternate shifts to support production needs.
  • Full-time employment status.
