The Certification Development Specialist is responsible for designing, managing, and improving certification programs that validate technical mastery, supporting the full lifecycle of exams and ensuring high-quality assessment content to enhance learning and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full lifecycle of certification exams, including design, implementation, delivery, and maintenance.
Ensure exam quality and relevance through item development, review, and refinement.
Conduct needs analysis to evaluate certification program value, gaps, and opportunities.
Analyze exam performance data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
Support recertification and renewal strategies, including exam updates and lifecycle management.
Align certification exam development with training content and assessment goals.
Develop certification program collateral such as exam blueprints, items, and enablement assets.
Build and maintain relationships with SMEs, assessment vendors, and exam developers.
Manage program logistics, including schedules, milestones, and SME participation.
Troubleshoot and support certification platforms and document workflows and processes.
Requirements
Minimum 1-3 years of experience in certification, assessment development, or instructional design.
Foundational understanding of certification design, item writing, and validation processes.
Awareness of psychometric principles and best practices for exam development.
Experience with psychometric tools or data analysis is preferred, as is academic or practical exposure to concepts such as assessment validity, job analysis, or performance measurement.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical SMEs and diverse stakeholders.
Strong attention to detail and a drive to learn continuously.
Experience using data collection, research, and analysis to evaluate project outcomes and improve individual and organizational performance.
Significant experience working where customer satisfaction is paramount in a service delivery care environment.
Educational background of a BS degree or equivalent practical experience in Education, Instructional Design, Industrial Organizational Psychology, or a related field.
Ability to execute end-to-end certification development supporting the full lifecycle of exams, including design, implementation, delivery, and ongoing maintenance.
Ability to drive exam quality and relevance through rigorous item development, review, and refinement to ensure assessment content is clear and aligned with standards.
Ability to conduct needs analysis to assess certification and certificate program value, gaps, and opportunities.
Ability to gather and analyze exam performance data to identify trends and recommend design or content improvements.
Ability to support recertification and renewal strategy execution, including exam updates and lifecycle adjustments.
Ability to contribute to continuous improvement efforts focused on accessibility, fairness, and candidate experience.
Ability to ensure alignment between certification exam development and certification preparation training by coordinating content handoff and communicating assessment intent.
Ability to participate in cross-functional reviews to understand how product and training updates impact certification programs.
Ability to develop certification program collateral, including training alignment, exam blueprints, items, and enablement assets.
Ability to prepare instructor-facing summaries for new or updated exams.
Strong relationship management skills to build working relationships with SMEs, assessment vendors, and peer exam developers.
Experience managing program logistics, including development schedules, milestone tracking, and SME participation or review status.
Proficiency in troubleshooting and supporting certification platforms and tools, and documenting workflows and processes.
Ability to maintain documentation and process artifacts with strict version control for items and certification programs.
Willingness and ability to work in an in-office environment at Santa Clara, Lehi, or Ralrigh offices, in compliance with company policies.
