Key Responsibilities
The New Product Development Engineer supports the development, qualification, and commercialization of innovative wire and cable products. Working across R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Materials, Procurement, and Commercial teams, this role leads and supports product design, prototype development, laboratory testing, certification activities, manufacturing trials, and continuous product improvement. The position combines hands-on engineering work with data analysis, technical documentation, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver products that meet performance, regulatory, manufacturability, and cost objectives.
Design and develop new cable products, materials, and component technologies.
Support full product development lifecycle including concept development, design calculations, prototyping, qualification testing, certification, industrialization, and launch.
Plan, execute, and analyze laboratory experiments while maintaining ISO 17025 testing practices.
Prepare technical reports, engineering specifications, drawings, qualification summaries, and test plans.
Apply structured problem-solving, root-cause analysis, statistical methods, and DOE techniques.
Collaborate with manufacturing teams to execute plant trials and improve product/process performance.
Support UL, CSA, ICEA, IEEE, ASTM and other certification and compliance activities.
Evaluate new materials, compounds, and components for performance, processability, and cost effectiveness.
Participate in product improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.
Communicate project status, risks, recommendations, and qualification readiness to stakeholders.
Support innovation initiatives and identify opportunities for intellectual property development.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills.
Ability to analyze test data and translate results into engineering recommendations.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative environment.
Experience in wire and cable, polymers, extrusion, materials engineering, or industrial manufacturing.
Knowledge of UL, CSA, ICEA, IEEE, ASTM, ISO, RoHS, and related standards.
Experience supporting prototype builds, manufacturing trials, and product qualification programs.
Familiarity with laboratory testing environments and certification processes.
Working knowledge of engineering change management and product lifecycle processes.
