Job Description
The Space Systems Engineer will support daily satellite operations, analyze data, troubleshoot anomalies, deploy software, and contribute to the development and optimization of Planet's Earth Observation satellite constellation through automation and operational improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily satellite operations, analyze data, and resolve anomalies
- Develop, test, and deploy software for satellite on-orbit and ground operations
- Perform fleet checks, support on-call shifts, and conduct on-orbit experiments
- Create and maintain operational procedures and real-time software solutions
- Generate system monitoring metrics by scripting and data aggregation
- Provide operational insights and feedback to engineering teams based on satellite performance
- Drive improvements in fleet capacity and productivity through process enhancements
- Shape operational strategies for next-generation spacecraft
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or equivalent experience
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience in a related field
- Proficiency in software development, particularly in Python or similar languages
- Data-driven mindset with experience in statistical analysis
- Familiarity with the space environment and its challenges
- Proactive approach to engineering and problem-solving
- Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills within a technical team
- Understanding of DevOps and CI/CD concepts
- Experience with Agile software development methodologies
- Proficiency in DevOps tools and practices such as Git, GitLab, Docker, Jenkins, Bash, Linux, Sentry, Datadog
- This position requires access to export-controlled information, and employment or hiring of a contractor is contingent upon the candidate's ability to access all applicable export-controlled information without additional export licensing being required by the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls
