Job Description
This role involves leading the development of an AI-powered web application focused on geospatial imagery, combining front-end and back-end engineering to create an intuitive, interactive platform that visualizes satellite data and insights for diverse users.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and develop the user interface and user experience for the AI-powered web application.
- Collaborate with AI research teams to translate complex analytical results into clear, visual, and actionable information.
- Design and implement interactive map and chat layouts that cater to both novices and GIS experts.
- Integrate branding, data badges, and citations to verify AI-generated insights grounded in satellite imagery.
- Create exportable visualizations such as before-and-after graphics, charts, and time-series animations to illustrate AI insights.
- Ensure high performance and seamless loading of high-resolution satellite imagery and map transitions.
- Engineer real-time frontend-backend communication for high-latency AI operations, including live updates and streaming responses.
- Manage state for multi-modal conversations within the application.
Requirements
- Four years of experience as a Full Stack or Frontend Engineer, with expertise in modern frameworks like React or Vue.
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or an equivalent field.
- Proficiency with mapping libraries such as Mapbox GL JS or Leaflet.
- Experience building streaming UI/UX for Large Language Models (LLMs) and LLM chat interfaces into production-grade web applications.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure and deploying applications in a cloud environment.
- Ability to develop and optimize highly responsive, visually engaging user interfaces for AI-powered web applications.
- Ability to collaborate closely with AI Research teams to understand models, workflows, outputs, and emerging capabilities, and translate complex analytical results into clear, actionable, and visually rich information for end-users.
- Experience developing side-by-side map and chat layouts that lower barriers for novices while providing deep analytics for GIS experts.
- Experience integrating visible branding, data badges, and clickable citations to verify AI-generated answers are grounded in real Planet imagery.
- Ability to create exportable before and after graphics, charts, and time-series animations that translate AI insights into actionable evidence.
- Ability to ensure performance optimization for slippy map transitions and high-resolution satellite imagery loading, even under high user demand.
- Experience engineering frontend-backend communication patterns, such as using web sockets to manage high-latency AI operations, including real-time agent status updates, streaming responses, and progressive data rendering.
- Strong understanding and application of UI/UX principles focused on democratizing access to complex satellite data for non-technical users.

Salary range: $144,500 - $180,600 USD (for San Francisco)
