Job Description

The role involves leading a high-velocity engineering team to develop and operationalize AI-driven geospatial products, transforming satellite imagery analysis into accessible, market-ready solutions that support high-stakes decision-making and global change detection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a high-velocity engineering team to develop and transition geospatial AI capabilities into a market-ready product.
  • Build and manage a talent pipeline, including sourcing, hiring, onboarding, and mentoring engineers in a complex geospatial domain.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and collaboration within the engineering team.
  • Design and iterate on the team's operating processes, including sprint cadences, testing, and development workflows.
  • Collaborate with AI research teams to translate research models and workflows into production systems that deliver value.
  • Establish evaluation benchmarks and automated testing to measure progress and improvement velocity.
  • Partner with product and design teams to develop a technical roadmap, identify risks, and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
  • Act as a cross-functional leader, ensuring engineering efforts support forensics and change-detection use cases.

Requirements

  • 6 years of relevant experience in software engineering or related fields.
  • 4 years of experience leading software engineering teams, including founding or high-growth environment experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience and enthusiasm for leading AI engineering teams that have successfully elevated research prototypes into production-grade applications.
  • Personally AI-native, with the ability to write production code with AI tools, and strong opinions on how AI is changing the engineering SDLC.
  • Ability to build a culture where AI is a core collaborator in the development process, not just a tool to be managed cautiously.
  • Experience with managing conflict, delivering difficult feedback, and keeping a team motivated through pivots in an early-stage product environment.
  • Ability to identify process bugs that slow down a team and implement cultural or structural changes to restore velocity.
  • Technical breadth to synthesize input from AI researchers and frontend experts for architectural and personnel decisions, including identifying when to collaborate with research teams for model development.
  • Pragmatic approach to development, focusing on delivering meaningful customer value without seeking perfection.
  • Impact-focused mindset, with the ability to build applications that enable users such as researchers, journalists, governments, and NGOs to explore the world using natural language and surface insights.
  • Experience with geospatial data or planetary-scale analytics is highly preferred.

Generous Paid Time Off in addition to holidays and company-wide days off
