Job Description
A Senior Data Engineer at Planet is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining enterprise ETL pipelines and data tooling using cloud technologies, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver insights and support the company's satellite data products and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain enterprise ETL pipelines and self-service data tools using cloud technologies
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver solutions
- Develop end-to-end data architecture, including implementation, CI/CD, orchestration, QA, and visualization
- Support monitoring and analysis of Planet's Missions and Constellation Services products
- Ensure data accuracy and reliability in data pipelines
- Provide insights and visualizations to facilitate decision-making and product evaluation
- Mentor team members through technical design reviews and code reviews
- Maintain and troubleshoot existing data pipelines and tooling
Requirements
- Six (6) years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience designing and implementing data architecture for data solutions end to end, from ingestion through insight, with an emphasis on data accuracy.
- Expertise in Python and SQL for building and maintaining data pipelines.
- Experience with ETL pipeline buildout.
- Experience with the modern data stack, including tools such as Fivetran, dbt, Looker, Omni Sigma, or similar.
- Ability to be a self-starter for solving problems in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to clearly communicate and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Experience with maintaining peer-reviewed code and implementing continuous integration and deployment workflows using tools like GitLab CI and Docker or similar.
- Experience with cloud architectures and services, preferably Google Cloud Platform or AWS.
- Experience working with geospatial datasets and event-based data architectures.
