The Senior Counsel, Policy will develop and implement legal strategies related to regulatory and policy issues in renewable energy and energy storage, providing legal guidance and managing regulatory proceedings to support the company's growth and compliance efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Create, implement, and maintain the company's legal priorities and strategy related to policy, regulatory, and energy storage matters.
Serve as the primary legal partner to the policy and energy storage teams, providing regulatory guidance across development, finance, and operations functions.
Lead legal analysis and strategy on federal, state, and local regulatory issues affecting renewable energy and energy storage projects.
Manage engagement in regulatory proceedings, including filing interventions, discovery, and testimony.
Coordinate with the policy team and manage outside counsel supporting regulatory matters.
Translate complex regulatory regimes into practical business guidance.
Requirements
Experience leading legal analysis and strategy related to federal, state, and local regulatory matters affecting renewable energy and energy storage projects, including market participation, interconnection, permitting, procurement programs, and evolving policy frameworks.
Ability to manage engagement in regulatory proceedings, including filing interventions, discovery, and testimony, in close coordination with the policy team.
Experience managing outside counsel supporting regulatory matters and providing broader in-house legal support and special projects as assigned by the Chief Legal Officer.
Strong foundation in regulatory and policy work, with willingness to be trained if necessary.
Comfort operating in ambiguity and translating complex regulatory regimes into practical business guidance.
Demonstrated sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism when supporting complex internal legal, operational, and people-related matters.
Excellent collaboration, honesty, and integrity in interactions with others, with a commitment to learning and continuous improvement.
Based in Denver, CO, with the ability to work from the office on a hybrid schedule.
