The role involves managing the fabrication of large steel structures called nodes for ocean wave energy devices, coordinating between engineering teams and external suppliers to ensure timely, quality, and cost-effective construction of hardware for renewable ocean energy projects.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate steel fabrication projects with external suppliers
Manage project timelines and resolve issues to ensure on-schedule builds
Transfer engineering drawings to suppliers and manage as-built documentation
Serve as primary contact for suppliers, addressing questions and routing inquiries
Oversee on-site fabrication activities and resolve real-time issues
Troubleshoot fabrication, material, and quality problems during builds
Provide design-for-manufacturing feedback to engineering teams
Approve invoices and manage change orders with suppliers
Identify, evaluate, and onboard new fabrication partners and capabilities
Build and maintain long-term supplier relationships
Requirements
2-5 years of experience leading or managing steel fabrication projects
5 years of experience working in steel fabrication environments
Extensive knowledge of applicable codes and specifications including AWS, AISC, and BPVC
Knowledge of steel material supply chain and regional suppliers and shops
Extensive knowledge of fabrication processes and equipment, including manual, semi-automated, and automated processes
Extensive knowledge of fit weld processes and equipment
Extensive knowledge of dimensional and weld inspection techniques and methods
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and documentation, GD T, and weld notes
Proven ability to work against aggressive schedules and keep projects moving
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to transfer engineering drawings to suppliers and manage as-built documentation
Ability to act as the primary point of contact for suppliers, answering questions or routing to the right internal owner
Ability to provide on-site support at supplier facilities to oversee builds and resolve issues in real time
Ability to troubleshoot fabrication, material, and quality issues during active builds
Ability to provide design-for-manufacturing feedback to engineering on feasibility, cost, and lead times
Ability to approve invoices and manage change orders with suppliers
Ability to identify, evaluate, and onboard new fabrication partners and capabilities
Build and maintain strong long-term partnerships with suppliers
