Job Description

The Solar Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing utility-scale solar PV and energy storage systems, ensuring efficient and safe operations through inspections, preventative maintenance, and system diagnostics.

Key Responsibilities

Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs on AC and DC solar PV and energy storage systems
Monitor plant operations through SCADA systems and support commissioning, testing, and system modifications
Troubleshoot electrical systems and support maintenance activities
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities using CMMS software
Develop and implement Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and electrical work plans
Read, interpret, and develop complex work procedures, schematics, and safety protocols
Support installation tasks including torquing, calibration, and use of specialized tools
Lead advanced troubleshooting across multiple OEM platforms and develop system diagnostics
Communicate site conditions and technical findings to stakeholders
Train and mentor junior technicians and develop work plans and maintenance schedules

Requirements

Possession of a valid driver’s license.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience in large-scale solar operations and maintenance (O M), with specific experience requirements varying by position level.
Competency in industrial or utility power operations, troubleshooting, and general maintenance procedures.
Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, operating SCADA systems, and using CMMS for maintenance tracking.
Strong computer skills, particularly in SCADA and CMMS applications.
Ability to perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs on AC and DC systems, including inverters, PV modules, transformers, switchgear, and high-voltage components.
Ability to monitor plant operations through SCADA and contribute to commissioning, testing, and system modifications.
Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and support maintenance as required.
Ability to work with remote operators to identify and resolve site issues efficiently.
Ability to maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities using CMMS software.
Ability to develop and implement Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and electrical work plans.
Ability to read, interpret, and develop complex work procedures, schematics, and safety protocols.
Ability to serve as the primary customer interface, communicating site conditions, needs, and technical findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to verify tooling and parts against work plans, relay necessary adjustments, and generate reports on findings and recommendations.
Ability to train and mentor junior technicians, fostering safety standards and adherence to industry practices.
Ability to develop and execute work plans and maintenance schedules.
Physical and mental fitness to stand, walk (including covering 2 miles in a day), climb, bend, and kneel for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
Physical ability to lift and carry tools or equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.
Ability to maintain clear visual acuity with or without corrective lenses for reading schematics and working with tools and meters.
Skill in handling precise tasks requiring fine motor skills and strong hand-eye coordination.
Willingness to work outside of normal business hours as necessary and participate in on-call rotation schedules.
Adherence to company policies on drug-free and alcohol-free workplace compliance.
Advanced positions require at least 4 years of direct or related experience in the solar industry.
Proficiency in troubleshooting and maintaining multiple OEM systems and advanced knowledge of LOTO procedures and electrical work planning.
Ability to create complex schematics and work instructions.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize competing requests.
