Job Description
This role involves leading the development and optimization of routing systems for autonomous vehicles, including designing scalable algorithms, managing engineering teams, and ensuring safe and efficient navigation for Nuro's self-driving technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and guide the routing roadmap and establish the technical direction for routing initiatives
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team
- Develop onboard routing modules and integrate routing with maps and planning systems
- Design and maintain scalable, distributed routing engines prioritizing reliability and performance
- Define routing operational design domain (ODD) and scope to ensure driver safety
- Research and evaluate advanced routing algorithms to improve route quality
- Integrate routing into product flows such as robotaxi services and end-user experiences
Requirements
- MS or PhD degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or related technical field
- 5 years of software engineering experience
- At least 3 years of engineering leadership experience in managing and growing high-performing engineering teams
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, with hands-on experience building and scaling real-time cloud services and applications
- Experience with large-scale algorithmic challenges, demonstrating the ability to balance correctness and performance
- Proven leadership experience managing and mentoring technical talent
- Experience driving complex technical initiatives with stakeholder engagement
- Ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environments
- Strong research and evaluation skills in state-of-the-art routing algorithms
- Experience developing efficient onboard routing modules and integrating routing with online detected maps and planning systems
- Experience designing and maintaining scalable, distributed routing engines with a focus on service reliability and high performance
- Ability to define the routing operational design domain (ODD) and scope, ensuring safety of Nuro Drivers
- Experience integrating routing into product flows such as robotaxi services, tailoring the experience for end-users
- Physical and cognitive ability to perform the responsibilities associated with leading technical initiatives and managing teams (implied by leadership and technical requirements)
