Job Description
The role involves owning and improving the quality and safety of data labeling pipelines for autonomous vehicle systems by diagnosing errors, establishing quality standards, and collaborating with engineering teams to ensure high-quality training data that directly impacts model performance and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate annotation faults by querying databases to identify root causes.
- Translate model accuracy regressions into specific labeling workflow improvements.
- Audit live labeling pipelines to detect and address systematic errors.
- Manage quality management processes for offshore annotation teams.
- Own and improve active labeling pipelines to ensure data quality and safety standards.
- Define quality standards and develop instrumentation to measure and maintain data quality.
- Diagnose and close gaps in labeling accuracy through analysis and evidence-based fixes.
- Bridge communication between engineering and ML operations to align quality metrics with model performance and safety outcomes.
Requirements
- Five years embedded with ML, data operations, or software engineering teams close to the work, not managing from a distance.
- SQL fluency to investigate a labeling anomaly, form hypotheses, and test without waiting on a data engineer.
- Deep experience with ML data pipelines and labeling ecosystems, including annotation workflows, quality sampling, taxonomy design, and inter-annotator agreement.
- A systems-level mindset to identify where quality breaks down structurally and design mechanisms that fix it, not just patch processes.
- Clear, confident communication skills to translate nuanced data quality findings into precise safety or business risks for senior leadership.
- Experience managing large-scale offshore or globally distributed annotation teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
