Job Description
A Autonomous Vehicle Operator responsible for operating self-driving vehicles, collecting data, troubleshooting issues, performing vehicle inspections, and engaging with the public, all while adhering to safety protocols in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate autonomous test vehicles in manual and autonomous modes while adhering to safety protocols
- Collect and provide detailed feedback on real-world data to engineering teams
- Troubleshoot operational issues in real-time and collaborate with dispatch to resolve them
- Perform daily vehicle inspections and basic maintenance tasks
- Educate the public about autonomous vehicle technologies and behaviors
- Conduct high-profile ridealongs for company leadership and stakeholders
- Monitor onboard safety and navigational systems to maintain situational awareness
Requirements
- Possession of a current valid Texas driver s license and having been in possession of a US license for at least 3 years.
- Ability to reliably work 5 days a week on one of the following shifts: Morning 8:00am-4:30pm CT (Tuesday to Saturday) or (Sunday to Thursday), Afternoon/Evening 4:00pm-12:30am CT (Tuesday to Saturday) or (Sunday to Thursday), or Overnight 12:00am-8:30am CT (Wednesday to Sunday).
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug test.
- Ability to operate standard field equipment including laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
- Ability to perform vehicle inspection checks before and after missions and perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as washing vehicles and putting air in tires.
- Ability to operate a vehicle in manual and autonomous mode for up to 8 hours per day in diverse traffic conditions while adhering to safety and operational driving procedures.
- Ability to troubleshoot operational issues in real time and collaborate with Mission Operations dispatch team to resolve issues and meet mileage collection targets.
- Ability to monitor onboard safety and navigational systems while maintaining constant situational awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
- Physical ability to sit for 3 to 4 hours at a time in an enclosed vehicle, occasionally with a co-driver, and to perform bending, squatting, stretching, and lifting up to 25 pounds regularly.
- Physical ability to perform side and up/down movement of the head, neck, back, and shoulders necessary to operate a vehicle safely.
- Physical ability to operate foot pedals and hold and grasp with hands during vehicle operation.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively through online collaboration platforms such as Slack and Google Meet.
- Strong problem-solving skills, remaining calm and resourceful under pressure to troubleshoot operational issues.
- Strong collaboration and time management skills, with the ability to work independently or in small groups without direct supervision.
- Self-driven and goal-oriented with the ability to adapt to frequent changes and evolving conditions.
- Proven record of reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance.
