Job Description
The Operations and Maintenance Manager oversees the daily operation, maintenance, and performance optimization of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across multiple sites, ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance while coordinating with vendors and internal teams to support the company's clean energy goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to ensure optimal performance and safety compliance.
- Monitor and control BESS through control systems, technical specifications, and vendor requirements.
- Lead troubleshooting and resolve operational issues promptly with the technical field team.
- Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance plans for BESS reliability.
- Coordinate with vendors for software updates, system enhancements, and performance optimization.
- Manage a Network Operations Center (NOC) for real-time monitoring and response to BESS operations.
- Analyze operational data to identify performance trends and improvement opportunities.
- Prepare performance reports and communicate system insights to stakeholders.
- Maintain relationships with vendors, control system providers, and partners to ensure seamless operations.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and contractual requirements.
- Collaborate with technical teams to improve system efficiency and implement advanced control strategies.
- Develop emergency response plans and coordinate responses during critical situations.
Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years of proven operations and or maintenance experience of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems, including at least 2 years managing renewable energy plants, battery energy storage preferred.
- In-depth understanding of battery technologies, energy storage systems, power electronics, and grid integration.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including EPCs and subvendors.
- Proven knowledge of various battery chemistries such as lithium-ion and flow batteries and their applications.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate operations teams, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
- Skilled in conflict resolution, interpersonal communication, and working cross-functionally with technical and management teams.
- Knowledge of industry standards, OSHA regulations, and environmental regulations.
- Knowledge of energy markets and market procedures.
- Experience with troubleshooting SCADA systems and site operations, and problem solving with local utilities.
- Demonstrated ability to adhere to safety processes and procedures.
- A valid driver’s license in good standing, with the ability to respond quickly and effectively to operational challenges across multiple locations.
- Ability to work on weekends and off-shift hours as needed.
- Ability to work in varying climates as required.
- Ability to travel to and from job sites as assigned.
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
- Ability to multi-task while working independently and as part of a team.
- Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from diverse backgrounds.

Salary range of $130,000-$150,000 plus bonus and incentive stock options
Work schedule includes nights, weekends, and off-hours as needed
