Job Description

The Senior Interconnection Engineer at Nexamp is responsible for managing utility interconnection processes for renewable energy projects, providing technical expertise, conducting assessments, and supporting project development and optimization to facilitate the integration of solar and renewable energy systems into the grid.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage utility interconnection applications from submission to project closeout.
  • Perform detailed review, analysis, and interpretation of technical documentation and utility reports.
  • Provide expert technical advice during interconnection study reviews and recommend solutions.
  • Prepare interconnection cost estimates and hosting capacity analyses.
  • Collaborate with project managers on value engineering and cost optimization.
  • Support negotiations and resolve disputes related to project timelines and costs.
  • Participate in technical project closure, including field support and witnessing tests.
  • Lead technical assessments to identify and address interconnection challenges.
  • Review project designs and ensure compliance with utility requirements.
  • Respond to RFIs during active construction projects and provide guidance on utility interactions.
  • Mentor and lead internal teams on interconnection processes and standards.
  • Support business development activities through site analysis and pre-application support.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of relevant experience with a utility, solar developer, Regional Transmission Organization, or consultancy, focusing on technical aspects of interconnection or interconnection-related activities and issues.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standard design codes such as National Electric Code, International Building Code, International Fire Code, and other standards relevant to the industry.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD software.
  • Moderate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Moderate proficiency with Microsoft collaboration tools such as Salesforce, Teams, Power BI, SharePoint, etc.
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • EIT Certification.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating information, ideas, and perspectives with people inside and beyond the organization.
  • Experience in showcasing initiative to make improvements to current work, processes, products, and services across the organization.
  • Ability to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify root causes of problems, and present creative solutions.
  • Expertise in building strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty across the industry.
