Job Description
The Senior Electrical Engineer at Nexamp will be responsible for reviewing and designing photovoltaic and energy storage projects, providing technical expertise on electrical infrastructure, system protection, and grid integration, while collaborating with various teams to support the deployment and commissioning of clean energy solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and specify electrical equipment shop drawings for switchgear, transformers, reclosers, and other major electrical components.
- Perform electrical modeling in ETAP and AmpCalc to coordinate system protection, determine fault-duty ratings, and calculate arc-flash hazards.
- Manage scope of work for third-party electrical engineers, including protection coordination, power flow studies, and substation design support.
- Review utility pre-screen reports, System Impact Studies, Interconnection Service Agreements, and utility negotiations.
- Witness test procedures, review code interpretations, and develop protective settings.
- Implement grid-edge technologies such as non-wires alternatives and selective curtailment.
- Conduct project design reviews, including single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and site layouts for compliance.
- Provide technical support during commissioning, including reviewing medium-voltage equipment tests and relay test reports.
- Develop mitigation plans for equipment non-performance and certify project completion.
- Support project lifecycle activities from development through asset management, including permitting and construction.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering
- 6 years of electrical engineering experience
- 2 years of PV experience
- EIT certification required, PE preferred
- AutoCAD software proficiency
- ETAP, SKM, or AmpCalc modeling experience
- Familiarity with AcSELerator and RDB generation
- Experience with utility scale design and HV substation or effective grounding expertise preferred
- Strong knowledge of industry standard design codes such as National Electric Code, International Building Code, International Fire Code and other industry standards
- Strong knowledge of electrical principles, including medium voltage distribution, protection system coordination and relaying principles
- Ability to specify and review equipment shop drawings for switchgear, transformers, reclosers, and other major electrical equipment
- Experience performing advanced electrical modeling in ETAP and AmpCalc to coordinate system protection, determine fault-duty ratings, and calculate arc-flash hazards
- Experience managing scope of work for 3rd party electrical engineers including studies protection coordination, power flow, Arc Flash, Step touch Grounding Analysis, PSCAD and PSSE Modeling, and Substation Design Support
- Ability to review, analyze, and interpret utility pre-screen reports, System Impact Studies, Interconnection Service Agreements, and utility negotiations
- Experience witnessing test procedures, code interpretation, and protective settings development
- Experience developing mitigation plans for non-performance to establish safe operation
- Ability to review RDB files and relay test reports
- Experience certifying mechanical completion on construction complete projects
- Ability to provide technical support to development, EPC, and O M departments for the entire project lifecycle including development, permitting, construction, and asset management phases
- Experience managing new product research and implementation initiatives
- Ability to participate in process improvement activities and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Best Practices
- Valid Driver’s License or ability to obtain one
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information, ideas, and perspectives with people inside and beyond the organization
- Experience showcasing initiative to improve current work, processes, products, and services
- Ability to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify root causes of problems, and present creative solutions
- Expertise in building strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty
- Eagerness to develop a fundamental understanding of Nexamp’s operations and apply that knowledge to inform business decisions
