Job Description
The OT Systems Engineer at Nexamp is responsible for supporting and optimizing the real-time operations of renewable energy assets by managing SCADA systems, cloud infrastructure, and OT environments to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient energy production.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support SCADA applications and data historians, including software updates, troubleshooting, and user support.
- Deploy, configure, program, and maintain SCADA systems for renewable energy sites, integrating with field equipment and telemetry.
- Maintain and optimize OT infrastructure such as Windows Server environments, virtual machines, and network configurations in Azure.
- Collaborate with NOC to ensure continuous SCADA availability, troubleshoot system issues, and resolve communication disruptions.
- Design and implement monitoring solutions for infrastructure and applications, supporting OT equipment in data centers.
- Work with cybersecurity team to apply security patches and maintain secure system configurations for OT assets.
- Support compliance activities related to NERC CIP and industry standards, ensuring data integrity and remote control of assets.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalent is a must-have.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience is a plus.
- At least 5 years of experience in implementing, maintaining, and supporting critical infrastructure within a Microsoft Azure cloud environment.
- Experience in creating and maintaining network architecture diagrams for Operational networks.
- Demonstrated ability to tune application, databases, and or infrastructure parameters to enhance system performance, reliability, and availability.
- Experience in managing Windows environment for Server Administration, Active Directory, Group policy, and system hardening best practices.
- Good understanding of networking principles, including firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, and routing in Operational Technology (OT) environments.
- Availability to work outside of regular hours, including participation in an on-call rotation as required.
- Support and participate in the deployment, configuration, programming, and ongoing maintenance of SCADA systems for renewable energy sites, including integration with field equipment and telemetry.
- Support the management and support of SCADA applications and data historians such as Ignition and AVEVA System Platform in Azure, including software updates, troubleshooting, and user support.
- Support the deployment and maintenance of OT infrastructure, including Windows Server environments, virtual machines, and network configurations within Microsoft Azure, with a focus on SCADA-related services and performance.
- Collaborate with NOC to ensure continuous SCADA availability and real-time data flow, troubleshooting system-level issues such as failures, OS faults, and network communication disruptions.
- Design and implement monitoring solutions for infrastructure and applications, providing hands-on support for OT equipment like servers, RTACs, routers, and switches.
- Work with Cybersecurity team to implement security patching schedules and maintain secure system configurations that protect OT assets without impairing system functionality.
- Support compliance activities related to NERC CIP and other relevant industry standards.
- Proficient with operational and analytical software tools, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and database platforms such as Microsoft Access or similar.
- Familiarity with PI System OSIsoft, AVEVA System Platform, Ignition, or similar SCADA HMI platforms is a plus.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and to effectively convey information, ideas, and perspectives.
- Ability to analyze data, identify root causes of problems, and present creative solutions.
- Demonstrated initiative to improve current work, processes, products, and services across the organization.
- Strong internal and external relationship-building skills, instilling trust and loyalty with customers and stakeholders.
