Job Description
The Utility Electrical Engineer I at New Leaf Energy is responsible for evaluating utility impacts, designing interconnection facilities, and supporting the integration of renewable energy projects into distribution systems, working closely with utility and project teams to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate utility impact studies for accuracy, design changes, and cost estimates
- Assist project developers in evaluating potential PV sites and interconnection costs
- Review interconnection drawings and application packages for compliance with utility standards and regulations
- Manage technical aspects of the interconnection process for projects
- Attend field design meetings with utility companies
- Perform power systems modeling, including coordination and grounding studies
- Evaluate potential PV sites and guide projects through acceptance testing
- Design interconnection facilities and system modifications in collaboration with utility engineers
Requirements
- At least 1-3 years of relevant experience in power systems or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
- Understanding of distribution system impacts associated with the interconnection of distributed energy resources (DER), as well as techniques for mitigating common distribution system impacts.
- Ability to use design standards to complete engineering deliverables and perform analysis, including load calculations, short-circuit studies, and coordination studies.
